Everyone knows the importance of good dental health, and yet many do not practice it. This may be the result of a variety of reasons, including a fear of the dentist, poor dental health value as a child and poor diet and medication use. Many adults go without regular dental care because they feel they do not need it or because they put it off so long. They are then left with finding an emergency dentist with a dental emergency. They experience a lot more pain and may be required to undergo expensive dental work. It is best to visit your family dentist on a regular basis. You can even begin seeing your family dentist after many years of not seeing on. It is never too late to begin working on a healthy smile.

According to an AACD survey, virtually all adults (99.7%) surveyed believe a healthy smile is socially important. There are too many people who feel self conscious or hide their smiles because they are not satisfied with their teeth. It can be difficult to visit a cosmetic dentist when you have not kept up with the overall health of your teeth. Dental work for health purposes is often priority and followed by cosmetic dentistry. However, regular dental care can lead to a healthier looking smile that you can feel comfortable with.

The smile is also the one part of our bodies that does not change as we age. More than half the adult U.S. population surveyed over age 50 agree that a smile is the one physical feature that stays the most attractive as we age, according to a survey by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. An adult who received poor dental care as a child can turn around their smile. They can change the shape of their teeth and they do have many options when it comes to dental work options. However, regular dental checkups need to become an important routine in your life. The average time people wait for another dental appointment is three years. When you are constantly visiting the dentist for tooth pain or with so long between visits, the focus will be on your tooth problems. If you regularly visit the dentist, your teeth will be regularly cleaned and cosmetic dental work can become an option.

An estimated 18% of people say they usually conceal their teeth in photos. Even more people are concerned with the look of their teeth and may feel that the shape of their smile has an effect on their social and employment relationships. Those who regularly receive tooth cleanings and have the option of cosmetic dentistry are more self confident and are more willing to smile and laugh openly in public.

Regular checkups can also pinpoint any dental problems before they become dental emergencies requiring expensive and painful dental work. One of the biggest reasons that people put off the dentist is for a fear of pain. Regular checkups and cleanings can actually reduce the amount of oral pain. When you regularly visit your dentist, they are more likely to notice things like cavities and broken teeth prior to any actual pain occurring. They can also correct the problem before it becomes too severe, causing additional pain.

Regular dentist visits are important. However, many people do not regularly visit their dentist. Many people only visit their dentist when they are in extreme dental pain and they must call for an emergency appointment. However, these painful experiences can be avoided with regular checkups. Additionally, many people are not satisfied with the shape of their teeth and feel that their smiles affect their social and employment relationships. They may hide their mouths when smiling and laughing. Regular dental care can lead to better looking smiles and additional cosmetic dental work can improve it even more.
